Meeting Summary

 

I.                    Tim Kelly, chairman of the Downtown Master Plan Steering Committee, brought the meeting to order.

A.    Tim Kelly introduced new committee members Tracee deHahn and Helen Powell.

B.     University of Kentucky College of Design students were introduced and recognized for their work on downtown surveys for the master plan.

II.                 Becky Reinhold moved, and P.G. Peeples seconded that the August minutes be accepted as presented.  The committee unanimously approved the minutes.

III.               Dhiru Thadani, Ayers/Saint/Gross consultant, gave presentation on observations and general principles of urban design which include the following:

A.    Observations documented which include data collection.

B.     Meetings held with focus groups and downtown neighborhood associations.

C.     Concepts and principles determined.

D.    Design guidelines recorded.

E.     Downtown Master Plan final document and graphics devised.

IV.              Harold Tate, president/executive director of the Lexington Downtown Development Authority, discussed homework from August 18 meeting.

A.    LFUCG Division of Planning mapped comments received from committee members.

B.     Committee members checked previous comments and added remarks to downtown maps.

C.     Information will be compiled and submitted to consultants for processing.

 

 

V.                 Harold Tate explained Ayers/Saint/Gross consultants have meetings planned with focus groups.

A.    Meeting with consultants and representatives from downtown neighborhood associations scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22 in the Phoenix Building third floor community room.

B.     Consultants are planning to meet with representatives from Farmers’ Market and retail/entertainment groups in November.

C.     Consultants will meet with downtown neighborhood association representatives and walk downtown neighborhoods in November.

VII.            The next Downtown Master Plan Steering Committee meeting is planned for 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3 in the third floor community room of the Phoenix Building located at 101 East Vine Street.
